What is the CXC® item bank?
The CXC® item bank is an electronic platform by which item writers author items that are immediately accessible to CXC®. The platform also facilitates the review process, routing reviewers before pretesting and live testing. Item authoring is facilitated mainly for the following CXC® offerings:
- CPEA™
- CCSLC®
- CSEC®
- CAPE®

How do I become a CXC® item writer or reviewer?
To become a CXC® item writer you must first indicate your interest in item writing by signing up via the CXC® Resource Management System: https://itembanking.cxc.org/. The video in the link provides guidance regarding the process of applying to become an item writer or reviewer.
Once you have applied, you must undergo training in item writing techniques before you can be considered certified to write items for CXC®.
How is training in item writing techniques conducted?
Training takes on a hybrid format, utilizing synchronous and asynchronous activities via the CXC® Learning Institute https://cxclearninginstitute.org/.

Who is CXC® looking for primarily?
Individuals with the following:
A degree in the subject area, conferred by a recognized university, a certificate of international currency for vocational subjects or vocational institute teachers’ diploma
Two years’ teaching of the subject at the level to be examined, provided that such teaching did not cease for more than two years
When are items accepted?
Submitted items go through a rigorous process of review by content specialists and measurement evaluation experts. Once deemed acceptable by both groups of specialists, items are placed into the item pool.
